Honorees Cynthia and David Kim

Co-Founders of Children of
Fallen Patriots Foundation

Cynthia and David Kim are the co-founders of the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. The Kims’ inspiration to start Fallen Patriots stems from David’s first deployment in the U.S. Army. Five days before Christmas, Sergeant William Delaney Gibbs from the 7 th Infantry Division was killed in action during Operation Just Cause in Panama, leaving behind a young wife and an unborn daughter. Sgt. Gibbs was only 21 at the time of his death. Having served with Sgt. Gibbs, David never forgot his sacrifice and often wondered who would take care of his little girl. David and Cynthia started Fallen Patriots with the mission to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty.

The Kims remain steadfast in their passion of honoring those who died defending our country by securing the future of their children. They, as well as everyone at the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, believe that a college education is the single-most important gift we can provide to the 20,000 Gold Star children in our nation.

Cynthia Kim graduated with a liberal arts degree in Biology and Chemistry from Hollins College and worked as a medical sales representative for Becton Dickinson. Cynthia serves as Volunteer Programs Director for Fallen Patriots, where she works closely with the Fallen Patriots staff and oversees the process of enrolling eligible families and distributing grants. Cynthia played a key role in the organization’s rapid growth but also works personally with the Gold Star families to provide them with emotional support and guidance.

David Kim is an honors graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Harvard Business School. He served as an artillery officer in the Army and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne and Ranger Schools. David is the global co-head of investor relations for Apax Partners, which is a leading global private equity firm operating across the United States, Europe, Asia, India and Latin America. The firm is currently managing funds with $50 billion in committed capital. David also serves in a volunteer role as the CEO of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. Under his leadership and vision, Fallen Patriots has provided over $20 million in support to more than 1,000 children in all 51 states and territories.

David and Cynthia have been married for 21 years. They have four children: their twin daughters and son attend St Luke’s School in New Canaan and their eldest son attends the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point. He will follow in David’s footsteps and become a member of the Long Gray Line’s Class of 2022.
